Recovery after neutering

Neutering recovery information

Post-neutering surgery recovery

For most cats, they recover very quickly – usually within 10 to 20 minutes they are awake enough to walk around. Dogs take a little longer, from 15 to 30 minutes. The longer surgeries often have somewhat longer wake-up times.

General anaesthetic

After a general anaesthetic your dog could be drowsy and lethargic for up to 24 hours. We recommend that you please keep them warm and undisturbed while they recover. Your dear pooch will need very gentle exercise on the lead for the next 10 days as over activity may disturb the stitches and delay healing, so nice and gentle does it! Cats should also be kept in after the procedure to allow heeling.

Your precious pet will be given drugs to manage any pain and recovery is usually fast and straightforward – as long as your pet follows their post-operative instructions (which you will be given when you collect your precious pet after surgery)!
